1. Did you always know you wanted to work in the medical field?

Absolutely, yes! I believe nursing is a calling. Nursing and caregiving are such profound ways to touch lives. Being able to support and care for others during their most vulnerable time is both a privilege and a responsibility, of which I do not take lightly.  There is something deeply fulfilling about knowing that your care, compassion, and hard work have a lasting impact on someone else’s life.

2. If you could tell prospective patients one thing about proton therapy, what would it be?

The proton center is so much more than just a place for advanced medical treatment. It is a family, a place of compassion where we focus not only on the patient, but we also focus on the whole journey before them. With the technology that we have and the compassion we provide, our team truly cares about each patient’s journey, and in doing so we can provide personalized care that treats the whole person, not just the disease.  When you walk through these doors, you become part of our family!

3. What is your day-to-day role like working at Texas Center for Proton Therapy?

Texas Center for Proton Therapy has such a meaningful and dynamic work environment.  I work alongside a compassionate team in a place that directly impacts people lives and is very rewarding. We all have shared responsibilities, and there are always opportunities for growth. Working here fosters an environment where care and dedication to the patient and family are not just qualities of the job, but they are shared values.

4. What has been the most impactful thing about working in the field of medicine?

Making a difference in others’ lives. Whether through treatment, support or education, the opportunity to provide hope and healing during someone’s most vulnerable moments, form meaningful relationships with patients, connect with their families, and bond with my colleagues is what makes my job the most rewarding.

5. What do you like to do in your free time outside work?

I love spending time with my family and with my new grandbabies (I have two now!). My husband and I love to travel when we have time to do so or just hanging out and relaxing by the pool.  I also enjoy drawing, painting, sketching, anything that allows me to nurture my creative side. Art has always been my form of release from the daily stress that happens in life, along with listening to music.

6. Where is your favorite place you’ve ever visited?

I lived in Washington state for about five and a half years, and I loved it! With the mountains and ocean, it’s truly the best of both worlds. One of my favorite places that I have ever visited would probably be Orcas Island (part of the San Juan Islands in Washington state). The quiet serene atmosphere that you find there is unmatched. It’s a one-hour ferry ride to get to Orcas Island, and once you arrive, it is hard to leave. Life is easy going there – a quaint and peaceful place to unwind. I highly recommend it.
